Alternative directions to the Alien Space Craft:

Go to the power station, northwest from Minefield. You'll pick up a signal just after you pass the large bend-over pylon. Now, travel east, and follow the radiation. The ship is obvious and easy to spot. At the front of it is a dead alien, and a fancy ray gun with ammo on the floor.
