Skyrim is not a direct “sequel” to Oblivion; but rather it’s a new chapter in the Elder Scrolls game series, set a couple hundred years after Oblivion. In the introduction to Skyrim, the Empire began taking back territory to the Elven nations it once ruled, because there was no one left to take the Emperor’s throne. The Blades had no one to fight for, and gradually died, were killed, or stayed separate from the rest of the known world by means of seclusion.
As with earlier Elder Scrolls games, Skyrim begins with you, the player character, as a prisoner on his way to his own death by execution. The player learns that Skyrim’s civil war is last in a sequence of foretold events by the Elder Scrolls, which also foretell of the return of Alduin, the god of destruction. Taking the form of a dragon, Alduin is foretold to take over the world with his servants. The player character is a dragon hunter anointed by the gods to fend off the threat Alduin poses to Skyrim.

The nonlinear gameplay in the Elder Scrolls series is brought back again for Skyrim. The player can explore Skyrim on-foot or on a horse, and fast-travel to certain cities, towns and dungeons after they have been discovered. There is no guarantee that you will find everything, you will have to explore your very best to find everything that this game has to offer. Quests are given by people in the world, and through the unique story-line, the quests can be altered to accomodate for player actions. The story system further directs your interaction with the world by setting unexplored areas as quests. When not completing quests, the player can interact with the people in the area through conversation, and they may request favors or training from the player. The economy can be stimulated by completing jobs, or harmed by demolishing industrial buildings.

The gameplay is very interactive and open. This allows for a great gameplay experience which will bring you back for more. Well worth the money.
