Batman: Arkham City is the much awaited sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum and is coming out on October 18, 2011. The 2009 video game Batman: Arkham Asylum was one of the biggest releases of that year for gamers. In Batman: Arkham City, the creator has reportedly created a world 5 times bigger than its prequel. The game play has a larger landscape and Batman’s ability to traverse the areas has been upgraded. The movements like gliding and diving has been given more momentum thus making Batman able to move across the entire city without ever touching the ground.
The twelve minute promo of the game showed Batman and Catwoman’s interconnected narratives and also that there is the presence of one of Batman’s many foes-Two-Face. Robin is also added as a pre-order bonus character in the challenge maps. Catwoman has more of an acrobatics oriented way of attacking involving her claws, whip and bolas. She has her own detective mode in the storyline called “Thief Vision” and is used to locate items for stealing. The constant rivalry confrontation with the Joker and Two-Face makes movement about the city difficult for Batman.
Batman: Arkham City has challenge maps which let the players try their hand in sneaky stealth missions. The gamers can play as different characters like Catwoman and Robin apart from Batman. Robin can be unlocked early by pre-ordering the game as mentioned earlier. There are three modes in the challenge maps- Speed challenges, Combat challenges and Predator challenges. The combat challenge involves fighting multiple enemies and getting a score as high as possible and the other mode needs you to clear out the room of enemies as quick as possible. The newly introduced Speed challenge has the players tasked with the aim of reaching a landmark in as less a time period as possible.
Overall, Batman: Arkham City is reviewed to be a brilliant superhero game with its responsive controls, orchestral soundtrack and dozens of side missions.
